Safe Place for Women and Children

At Hope House, we dedicate ourselves to providing emergency shelter for women and children in need, ensuring a safe space during challenging times.

About Us

Hope House is a unique place in Wilmington, Ohio: a low-barrier drop-in shelter for women and their accompanying children, and the only one of its kind in the region. Hope House complements the outreach of the traditional shelters like the Clinton County Homeless Shelter by offering safe haven to women who cannot meet the necessary qualifications that the Homeless Shelter imposes. Some homeless women are not interested in being in shelter every night, preferring to couch-surf with friends and relatives occasionally. Others have criminal backgrounds or are living chaotically in the throes of active addiction. Others still find themselves suddenly homeless. They're packing what they can carry in the afternoon and out of their house or apartment by nightfall. They need a place where they can walk up to the door at 8:00 pm and be welcomed in.

Hope House is open every evening.

Check in starts at 8pm and Check out is 8am. Up to 7 guest are welcomed on a first come, first served basis. Guest receive a safe place to sleep, a warm shower, an evening meal/snack, clean pjs, laundry service, breakfast and a bag lunch.

Above all else, guest are given a safe, judgement free place to sleep and opportunity for hope.

Volunteer Opportunities

Hostesses are the initial contact many of our guests make. Our compassionate hostesses insure that our guests are welcomed into a warm, safe and judgment free zone.  Hostesses serve overnight beginning at 8pm.

We believe in building a community around our guests, whether they need advice, a cup of coffee or attending Bible studies together, women supporting women are at the heart of what we do.

Once our guests have left for the day, the shelter is cleaned, prepped to receive the arriving guests.  Cleaning includes laundry, bathrooms, kitchen, etc.

There are other ways to volunteer!  Maybe that looks like making a meal, helping to organize our store room or maybe you would like to help with a fundraiser.  There is a place for everyone at Hope House.

“Thank God for Hope House. If not for them, I would have had nowhere to lay my head safely and (with such loving care), sleep securely at night."

Board Member, Nancy McCormick

" When I think about why this work matters to me, I remember the teaching of Jesus. Jesus identified with those in need, saying that when we give a drink to one who is thristy, it's like giving it to him. When we give clothing to those who are in need, it's like clothing Jesus.
So, when these women don't have beds, it's as though Jesus doesn't have a bed. So, when make a bed for them, it's like making one for Jesus.”
